BYD App Guide: Remote A/C, Lock, Charging and Health Checks from Your Phone

The BYD App is a free mobile application available on Google Play and the App Store that connects to your BYD Seal (and other BYD models) via the Internet. It provides remote climate control, door locking and unlocking, live charging status with SOC percentage, tire pressure monitoring, seat heater controls, vehicle health alerts, and trip data. Both your phone and vehicle must be connected to the internet for remote functions to work.

Downloading and Setting Up the BYD App

The BYD App is BYD's official Internet of Vehicle (IoV) application. It works with every current BYD model including the Seal, Atto 3, Dolphin, Sealion 7, and Shark 6.

  • Download: Search "BYD" in Google Play (Android) or App Store (iOS)
  • Free: No subscription required for core remote functions
  • Requirements: Stable internet on both phone and vehicle
  • Available in: Australia, New Zealand, Middle East, Europe, Southeast Asia, and other BYD markets

Pairing the App with Your Seal: First-Time Setup

Based on the BYD owner's manual, follow these steps to register and pair:

  1. Open the app and tap "Sign up" to go to the registration screen.
  2. Enter the email address registered at your BYD authorized dealer. Using a different email will cause registration to fail.
  3. Tap "Send email" to receive a verification code, then enter the code in the app.
  4. Set your password to complete registration. The homepage is displayed.
  5. Select your country or region in the upper right corner. The default depends on your phone setting. Choose the correct region, otherwise your vehicle data will not be accessible.

The manual emphasizes: you must use the email address registered with your BYD dealer during vehicle purchase. If you used a different email, contact your dealer to update it before attempting app registration.

Remote Climate Control: Pre-Cooling Your Cabin

This is the most popular BYD App feature, especially in hot climates. Tap the A/C card on the homepage to access the full climate control screen where you can set temperature, fan speed, and mode before walking to your car.

  • Pre-cool in summer: Turn on A/C 5-10 minutes before departure. Your cabin is cool when you arrive.
  • Pre-heat in winter: Warm the cabin and activate seat heaters remotely.
  • Battery benefit: Pre-conditioning while plugged in draws from the charger, not the battery, preserving range. For more on battery care, see our Seal battery life tips.

Remote Lock, Unlock, and Window Control

The homepage provides four quick-action buttons:

  • Lock: Locks all doors remotely
  • Unlock: Unlocks the vehicle remotely
  • Light flash and honk: Locates your car in a busy car park
  • Light flash only: Subtle visual confirmation without noise

Tap the doors and windows icon to check which doors are open and window positions. This is useful for confirming you locked up after leaving. Your Seal's ADAS safety features work alongside these controls to keep the car secure.

Charging Status, SOC, and Scheduling

The app homepage continuously displays your Seal's battery state of charge, remaining driving range, and whether the car is currently charging. When plugged in, it shows estimated time to full charge.

  • Live SOC: Percentage and estimated km remaining
  • Charging state: Connected, charging, complete, or fault
  • Scheduled charging: Set charge times to use off-peak electricity rates
  • Remote OTA: Trigger software updates from More Functions > OTA Upgrade. See our OTA update guide for the full process.

Vehicle Health and Tire Pressure

The app provides a real-time vehicle health overview. Active fault codes and warning lights appear directly on the homepage when present. The tire pressure display shows live kPa readings for all four wheels.

If a warning appears, the app mirrors the same alert shown on the car's instrument cluster. For a full guide to what each warning light means, see our dashboard warning lights guide.

Sharing Access with a Second Driver

The BYD App supports multiple vehicles on one account, and vehicle keys can be shared via Bluetooth Digital Key or NFC Digital Key functions:

  • Bluetooth Digital Key: Share via the app to a second phone. The recipient downloads the BYD App and activates the key through Bluetooth pairing.
  • NFC Key Card: A physical card that locks and unlocks the car when held near the driver's side mirror NFC sensor. No phone needed.
  • Multiple cars: If you own more than one BYD, tap the vehicle name in the upper left corner to switch between them.

App Troubleshooting

Problem Solution
Remote control not responding Confirm both phone and vehicle have internet. The manual states: "Ensure your phone and vehicle are connected to the Internet."
Registration fails Use the email address registered at your BYD dealer. Contact the dealer to update if incorrect.
Wrong country/region data Change region in upper right corner of app. Must match the country where the vehicle was purchased.
Bluetooth key won't connect Turn off system Bluetooth, turn it back on, and restart the app. Dense vehicle environments reduce Bluetooth range.
Vehicle data not showing Check vehicle internet connection. The car must have active cellular data or Wi-Fi for IoV functions.
App crashes or freezes Update to the latest app version from Google Play or App Store. Clear cache if issues persist.

Common Mistakes Owners Make

  • Using a different email than the one at the dealer. Registration requires the exact email on file with your BYD authorised dealer.
  • Selecting the wrong country. Vehicle data becomes inaccessible if the region setting doesn't match where you purchased the car.
  • Expecting the app to work without internet. Remote control requires internet on both the phone and the vehicle. Bluetooth key functions work without internet.
  • Not using pre-cooling. Running the A/C for 5 minutes before departure while plugged in saves battery range and makes every drive more comfortable.
  • Forgetting to check the app after parking. A quick glance confirms doors are locked, windows are closed, and SOC is where you left it.

While the app keeps you connected digitally, bydaccessories.store keeps your Seal protected physically with model-specific phone mounts, centre console organisers, screen protectors, and V2L accessories that complement your smart ownership experience.
