The Denza Z9S is a newly revealed tri-motor sedan with a reported 1,194 hp and 920 km of range; the Denza Z is an upcoming two-door sports car targeting around 1,000 hp. Both ride on Denza's e3 platform with independent torque control at each wheel. Denza already operates officially in Australia, with the Z9GT confirmed for local sale, which is what makes these halo cars relevant here rather than fantasy.

Where Denza sits above BYD
Denza is BYD's premium marque, designed under former Audi and Alfa Romeo designer Wolfgang Egger, positioned above the BYD-badged range the way Lexus sits above Toyota. Its flagship family, the Z9 sedan, Z9 GT shooting brake, and the N8L and N9 SUVs, shares the e3 platform, and the brand is no longer a China-only story: Denza has an official Australian operation, Denza vehicles have been arriving on the same ships as BYD stock, and the Z9GT is confirmed for Australian sale with its own local product page.
Z9S powertrain architecture
The Z9S, revealed in official images on 17 July 2026 per CarNewsChina, is a shorter-wheelbase sedan in the Z9 family carrying a tri-motor powertrain reported at 1,194 hp, roughly 890 kW, with a reported 920 km range. Several technical details remain undisclosed, with the second-generation Blade battery and God's Eye B driver assistance expected but not yet confirmed.
The architecture underneath is the interesting part, and it is shared with the Z9 family already documented. In plain terms:
- Three motors, one front and two rear. Each rear wheel gets its own motor, so the car can send different amounts of drive to each side independently.
- Independent wheel torque control. Because the rear wheels are powered separately, the car can push the outside wheel harder in a corner to help rotate the body, steady itself in an emergency swerve, and even rotate the rear wheels in opposite directions at parking speeds to shrink the turning circle. Reporting on the Z9 credits this with a 93.6 km/h moose test result and controlled braking from 140 km/h during a tyre blowout scenario.
- The e3 platform ties it together with DiSus-A dual-chamber air suspension and, on the established Z9, vehicle-to-grid output above 300 kW.
For context on the family, the existing Z9 GT's electric version is listed at 710 kW with a 100 kWh Blade LFP battery and 630 km CLTC range, while its plug-in hybrid pairs a 2.0-litre turbo with 640 kW of motors. The Z9S sits on top of that architecture with more power and, notably, a big range claim; treat all of it as manufacturer and press figures on China's CLTC cycle until cars are independently tested.
What the Denza Z is
The Denza Z is the shape of the halo to come: a two-door battery-electric sports car, coupe and convertible, tri-motor on the same e3 platform, targeting around 1,000 hp, with production slated to begin in 2026 per its published outline. Until the Z reaches production, its figures are targets, not measurements, and we will treat them that way.
Which technologies filter down
Here is the blunt part. Owners of BYD-badged cars in Australia should know exactly which halo hardware reaches their driveway and which does not.
- Does not filter down: the tri-motor system and independent wheel torque control. These belong to the e3 platform. No BYD-badged model sold in Australia today has them, and no announcement suggests that changes.
- Arrives first through Denza: Blade 2.0 and flash charging. The Australian-confirmed Z9GT is billed as the first car sold here with second-generation Blade battery technology and FLASH ultra-fast charging, per Zecar and Denza's own Australian materials, with local figures subject to ADR verification.
- Already shared: the battery chemistry lineage. The halo cars run Blade LFP packs, the same chemistry family as the battery in Australian BYDs. - Partially shared: suspension and assist systems. DiSus variants and God's Eye-family driver assistance appear across the wider BYD group in China, but which versions reach which Australian models is decided market by market. Denza in Australia today
Denza's Australian presence is real and growing: an official local arm, stock arriving through the same import pipeline as BYD, and the Z9GT confirmed for sale with published local positioning against the Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron GT.
