BYD Atto 3 Infotainment Screen: The Complete Owner's Guide
Share
The BYD Atto 3 is built around a 12.8-inch touchscreen that rotates between landscape and portrait at the press of a button. It runs BYD's own system with built-in navigation, BYD Assistant voice control, Bluetooth, and a customisable home screen. One thing to know up front: the Atto 3 does not support Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, so its built-in apps and a phone mount are how most owners get around that.

Screen Specs: 12.8-inch, Rotation and Resolution
- Size: a 12.8-inch touchscreen, the centrepiece of the cabin.
- Rotation: it pivots between landscape and portrait using the dedicated button.
- Resolution: BYD does not publish an official resolution figure, so we will not quote one.
- Touch response: tap gently, and if nothing happens, lift your finger and tap again. Cold screens look darker and respond more slowly until they warm up.
Portrait vs Landscape Mode: When to Use Each
The rotation is more than a party trick.
- Landscape suits split-screen use and is the mode BYD recommends while driving for safety.
- Portrait shines for navigation and long lists, showing more of the road ahead or more menu items at once.
- For a deeper dive, see our guide to getting the most from the Atto 3's rotating screen.
Home Screen Layout and Icon Customisation
The home screen is yours to arrange.
- Touch and drag any icon to a new position to suit how you drive.
- The navigation bar carries back, home, recent apps, screen rotation, split screen, screen saver, and vehicle settings.
- A shortcut menu gathers quick toggles such as WLAN, Bluetooth, mobile data, volume, and light mode.
Swipe Gestures and Quick Access Shortcuts
A few gestures speed everything up.
- Tap to open and select, and drag to move icons.
- Double-tap or pinch to zoom images and maps in and out.
- Use the shortcut menu for one-tap access to connectivity, volume, and the day or night light mode.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto: Why They Are Missing
This is the most common Atto 3 question, so here is the straight answer.
- The Atto 3 does not support Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
- Instead it uses BYD's built-in apps, Bluetooth for calls and audio streaming, and BYD Assistant for hands-free control.
- Wake the assistant with the steering-wheel button, the screen icon, or "Hi, BYD", then ask it to navigate, play music, or make a call. Our guide to Atto 3 voice control covers the commands.
Navigation: Built-In Maps and the Phone Workaround
Because there is no phone mirroring, navigation works differently to many rivals.
- The Atto 3 uses BYD's built-in satellite navigation. It does not have Google Maps built in.
- You cannot project phone maps onto the screen, so many owners run their preferred map app on a phone instead.
- A secure phone mount is the simplest fix, keeping Google Maps or Waze in view without blocking the screen.
Sound and Volume Settings
- Use the scroll button to turn the volume up or down, and press it to mute or restart audio.
- Press and hold the scroll button for three seconds to restart the whole infotainment system if it ever hangs.
- Detailed sound tuning lives in the media app. The manual does not document a fixed equaliser, balance, and fade menu, so check the audio settings on your software version.
Brightness, Auto-Dim and Night Mode
- The shortcut menu includes a light mode toggle for switching the display between day and night themes.
- The screen also dims automatically as ambient light changes.
- The manual does not describe a separate manual brightness slider beyond the light mode toggle, so explore the display options on your version.
Factory Reset and Software Version Check
- Version and updates: go to Settings, then System, then Version, then Version update, then Upgrade. The Atto 3 supports OTA updates, covered in our guide to managing Atto 3 software updates.
- OTA rule: stay parked in P with a stable connection and do not move the car during an update.
- Factory reset: reset the infotainment system from System settings. It takes two to five minutes, and you must not touch the screen or cut power during the process.
Screen Cleaning: What Not to Use
Get this wrong and you can dull the screen coating.
- Clean with a soft, slightly damp cloth only.
- Do not use any cleaning product, including glass cleaner, alcohol wipes, or solvents.
- Wipe gently and never press hard on the panel.
A fitted screen protector keeps fingerprints and scratches off the glass and makes cleaning safer. At bydaccessories.store we stock Atto 3 screen protectors and phone mounts cut and designed for the cabin.
Common Mistakes Owners Make
- Searching for CarPlay. The Atto 3 does not have it, so set up the built-in apps instead.
- Spraying glass cleaner. A damp cloth only, no products.
- Driving in portrait. BYD recommends landscape on the move.
- Moving the car mid-update. Stay parked in P throughout an OTA.
- Ignoring the voice assistant. "Hi, BYD" replaces a lot of screen tapping.
