BYD Shark 6 Infotainment Screen:

BYD Shark 6 Infotainment Screen: The Complete Owner's Guide

The BYD Shark 6 Premium runs a 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen (the base Dynamic uses a 12.8-inch fixed screen), paired with a 10.25-inch driver cluster and a 12-speaker Dynaudio system. It handles drive modes, ADAS, climate, navigation, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus over-the-air updates. The physical scroll dial controls volume and screen on/off. Almost everything else, including climate, lives in the screen.

Screen Specs: Size, Resolution and Touch Response

  • Size: 15.6 inches on the Premium, with 90-degree portrait and landscape rotation. The base Dynamic uses a 12.8-inch fixed screen.
  • Resolution: BYD does not publish an official resolution figure, so we will not quote one.
  • Touch response: tap gently. If nothing happens, lift your finger and tap again. In cold weather the image may look darker and respond more slowly, and polarised sunglasses can make it hard to read, so change your angle or remove them.

Home Screen Layout and Icon Customisation

The navigation bar gives you back, home, settings, app list, split screen, screen rotation, and climate shortcuts.

  • Swipe down from the top for the shortcut menu, and up from the bottom for the task centre.
  • In My Car, tap more to see all shortcuts, then long-press and drag any shortcut to reorder it.
  • Three-finger swipes control climate: left and right change fan speed, up and down change temperature.

ADAS Controls: Enabling Features from the Screen

Driver-assist features are grouped in one place.

  • Go to Settings, then ADAS, then Safety Assist.
  • From there you can enable or disable AEB, Lane Departure Assist, ELKA, and the other aids.
  • Changes apply straight away and most settings are remembered for the next drive.

EV and HEV Mode: Not on the Screen

This one surprises owners. The EV and HEV switch is a steering-wheel scroll button, not a screen toggle.

  • Use the left steering-wheel scroll button (or the dedicated EV/HEV button) to switch between pure-electric and hybrid running.
  • The screen and controls handle drive modes such as ECO, Normal, and Sport, plus the Mud, Sand, Snow, and Mountain terrain modes.

Pairing Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

Both connect wirelessly.

  • Open the application screen and tap the Apple CarPlay or Android Auto icon, then pair your phone as prompted.
  • For the first wireless pairing, keep your phone's Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Location Services on.
  • To return to the BYD interface, tap the BYD icon or the home button in the navigation bar.
  • Android Auto needs Android 10 or above and may ask you to update the app first.

Navigation: Built-In Maps vs Google Maps

  • The Premium ships with BYD's built-in satellite navigation.
  • The Performance variant adds Google Automotive Services with Google Maps built in.
  • On any variant, wireless CarPlay or Android Auto lets you run Google Maps, Apple Maps, or Waze straight from your phone.

Sound and Volume Settings

The 12-speaker Dynaudio system is a cabin highlight.

  • Scroll the dial up or down to set volume from 0 to 39. A mute icon shows at 0.
  • Press the dial to mute, and press again to unmute.
  • Detailed sound tuning lives in the media app. BYD does not document a fixed equaliser, balance, and fade menu in the manual, so explore the audio settings on your own car to see what your software version offers.

Screen Visibility: Brightness and Day-Night Behaviour

The Shark 6 adjusts to ambient light using its light sensor, dimming the displays as conditions change.

  • The manual does not describe a separate manual day-night brightness slider for the central screen, so check the display options on your software version.
  • Cold screens look darker until they warm up, which is normal.
  • Because climate and many controls live in the screen, keep it clean and unobstructed for clear night viewing.

Factory Reset and Software Version Check

  • Version check: go to Settings, then System, then Version, then Vehicle Version. The same path runs an OTA update.
  • OTA update: park in a safe spot in P with enough battery, and do not move the car during the update.
  • Factory reset: reset the infotainment system from System settings. It takes two to five minutes, and you must not touch the screen or cut power during the process.

Screen Cleaning: What Not to Use

This is the section most owners get wrong.

  • Clean the screen with a soft, slightly damp cloth only.
  • Do not use any cleaning product, including glass cleaner, alcohol wipes, or solvents, which can strip the coating.
  • Wipe gently in straight lines, and never press hard on the panel.

A fitted screen protector saves the panel from scratches and fingerprints, and makes cleaning safer. At bydaccessories.store we stock Shark 6 screen protectors cut to size, along with dash mats and other cabin protection.

Common Mistakes Owners Make

  • Spraying glass cleaner on the screen. A damp cloth only, no products.
  • Hunting the screen for EV/HEV. It is a steering-wheel button.
  • Moving the car mid-update. Stay parked in P throughout an OTA.
  • Forgetting climate is in the screen. Learn the three-finger swipes before you need them.
  • Plugging in for CarPlay. Both CarPlay and Android Auto connect wirelessly.
