  • The anti-theft lock is off by default: With it off, stopping the charge and pressing the connector's mechanical button releases it normally. To enable the lock, go to the touchscreen, then New Energy, then Charging Settings, and tap Activate
  • With the lock active: Unlock the vehicle first, using the key's unlock button or the driver's door handle microswitch with the key nearby, then pull the connector
  • Mind the 30-second window: After unlocking, the connector must come out within 30 seconds or the port re-locks, so unlock and pull, do not unlock and wander off
  • After DC charging: Press the unlock button twice within three seconds for the release to take

  1. Try unlocking again first: If the connector will not come out after unlocking, the manual says try a few more unlock attempts

  3. Find and pull the lock latch: A lock latch is located inside the engine compartment, and pulling it manually unlocks the charging connector
  4. Then see a dealer: The manual directs any lock abnormality or failure to a BYD authorised dealer or service provider, since the emergency latch is a rescue, not a routine

Cold Mornings and Careful Habits

  • Frozen door: If weather freezes the port door shut, do not force it open
  • Close both layers after charging: Cap first, then door, or water and debris can enter and affect the port
  • Never drive off connected: Ensure the equipment is disconnected before starting, as the locking mechanism can damage the equipment and the vehicle otherwise
  • Dry hands only: The manual warns against disconnecting with wet hands or from wet ground
